  • ABOUT.

CUMC Preschool began as a Mother's Day Out program in the early 1980s. Under the leadership of founder Betsy Price, the program became a licensed, high-quality preschool in 1984 and an outreach for the church. The school grew and evolved to include the Transitional Kindergarten program, as well as a Kindergarten and First Grade Program. Serving in the capacity of Director for 25 years, Betsy Price guided the school into becoming the premier preschool that it is today.

    BELIEFS.

    • What is a United Methodist?

In the words of John Wesley (1703-1791), "A Methodist is  . . . one who loves the Lord his God with all his heart, with all his soul, with all his mind, and with all his strength." John Wesley was an ordained Anglican priest. At a prayer meeting in London on May 24, 1738, he had a powerful spiritual experience which inspired him to become the first teacher of "Methodism."

    • What is the United Methodist Church?

The United Methodist Church is grounded in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In 1968 the Evangelical United Brethren Church and Methodist Church joined to form The United Methodist Church--this country's second largest Protestant denomination.

    • What do United Methodists believe?

That's not an easy question, since United Methodists don't agree on all aspects of doctrine. United Methodists share a common heritage with other Christians:

    * Conviction that God has mercy and love for all  people

    * Belief in a triune God--Father, Son and Holy Spirit

    * Faith in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ

    * Celebration of the sacraments of Baptism and Holy

       Communion

  • PROGRAM OBJECTIVES.

The objectives of our preschool are to:

    • Create opportunities for children and their families from all backgrounds and heritage.
    • Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for each child.
    • Nurture the physical, emotional, social, intellectural and spiritual growth of each child.
    • Encourage a child's positive self-esteem, independence, a sense of responsibility and respect for themselves, others, and their environment.
    • Encourage children to become aware of God's love and experience God's love through the teachers and staff.
